The Newman Grove FFA Chapter hosted its annual banquet and labor auction on the 24th of April. The officer team began the evening with the opening ceremony followed by the meal. After the meal, our guest speaker Vance Heyer, last year’s FFA State Secretary, spoke about the FFA jacket and how we as members represent it. There were five Junior High members that received their Discovery Degree and six members received their Greenhand Degree. Eight members received their Chapter Degree, which is the highest degree a chapter can bestow on its members. Awards were given to a select few recipients throughout the night. The Star Greenhand was awarded to Kleo Edgell for her outstanding participation and leadership for a young member of the chapter. The next award, the Star Chapter Farmer, was given to Alex Wiese for his constant involvement and outstanding SAE. Alex’s Supervised Agricultural Experience includes feeding 39 head of cattle presently, building a new yard and buying a feed wagon this past year. Demi Edgell was the recipient of the Outstanding Member Award for her many extra hours put in after school preparing for contests, meetings, and countless other activities that the chapter was involved in. Kendra Nelson was selected for the Monsanto-DeKalb Accomplishment Award. This award is given to a senior that has been very active throughout their whole FFA career. The Newman Grove chapter sells fruit and pizzas every fall as a fundraiser for the chapter. Alex Wiese was recognized as the top salesman for selling a total of $1,302.50. The officers of this last year were retired and the new officers were installed to their positions. We would like to give a special thanks to the retiring senior officers for their great leadership and encouragement. Their leadership will be truly missed with some big shoes to be filled.
